Spelling Bee News - Congratulation to Chloe B. for a job well done representing McKinney Academy by participating in the District (Mecklenburg County) Spelling Bee held at Charlotte Country Day School in Charlotte. She placed 8th out of 15 students. Congratulations Chloe!

Mustang Mingle - D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Day was Friday, January 20th. Students dove into their favorite books along with their favorite pillows and blankets. The students had a great time reading and spending time together getting lost in their favorite books. This is a great opportunity to cultivate the student's love of reading! The Wellness Committee is pleased to announce the upcoming Wellness Learning Session entitled - "Reality Check: Raising Your Child With Pure Sexual Values From Preschool-Puberty". The lecture is free, open to the public and will take place at the Academy on January 26th at 6:30pm.

The 4th and 5th Grade students had an in-house field trip today with "The World in Our Backyard". They "visited' the country of Australia! The students dressed in Australian native clothing, have their faces painted, and played some very interesting instruments. Click the "Read more" for additional photos.

A "Mustang Mingle" is an opportunity for the entire student body to come together as a community while aligning with the school's mission to develop well-rounded, motivated, independent, responsible individuals. McKinney Academy students celebrated Thanksgiving by presenting songs, poetry, and dramatic art in a classroom format presentation this year. McKinney Academy students showed their appreciation to Brawley Seed Company for all they have done to support the McKinney Academy Garden. The wellness committee came up with the kind gesture to Brawley for donating all the soil, mulch, seed and time to our school garden.  A big thank you to Stacey Haglund for coordinating all the kids and putting the picture together. Each trimester, McKinney Academy participates in a community giving project. The Community Giving committee at McKinney Academy will be hosting a food/supply drive for the Humane Society of Iredell County at the school.The dates will be November 9-18.
